Company ProfileIn May 1948, Alvin Berlin started The Baltimore Auto Supply Company, together with his war bride and founding partner, Rose. From humble beginnings in the garage of a relative, Alvin and Rose went on to open a store front at 3515 Dolfield Avenue in Baltimore City’s up-and-coming Ashburton district. With Alvin on the road and Rose in the office, the business grew to eventually become a well-established powerhouse in the wholesale aftermarket industry, selling a variety of hard parts, chemicals, tools & equipment, and accessories. In these early days, Baltimore Auto’s customer base was almost exclusively comprised of the burgeoning jobbing store market. After overseeing decades of record growth and several expansions of Baltimore Auto’s warehouse facility, Alvin passed on in 1991. In June 1994, Baltimore Auto, now a woman-owned business, made an historic move of its headquarters to a state-of-the art warehouse and office complex at 1401 Parker Road in Arbutus in Baltimore County, Maryland, its current location. Baltimore Auto is now located at the crossroads of I-95 and I-695 (the Baltimore Beltway), in close proximity to the Washington, D.C. corridor. Consistent with most global industries, the chain of distribution in the aftermarket automotive parts industry from manufacturer to end user has dramatically shifted during the last few decades. The Baltimore Auto Supply Company’s continued growth and regional market share reflects this changing reality. Baltimore Auto’s customer base is no longer limited to the jobbing market. The Baltimore Auto Supply now boasts nationally recognized fleets on its customer roster. The Baltimore Auto Supply Company is also partner to numerous federal, state, and local multi-year contracts for the supply of automotive parts to their respective fleets.
